There are so many words to describe Tokyo, but it’s quite impossible to summarize. Every visitor is always awestruck by the sheer vastness of the city, the crush of people and the glow of neon lights.
Between the crowds of lonely businessmen and colorful doll-like Harajuku girls, everyone has one thing in common. They like to DRINK.
I’m not talking about water or your soda. I’m talking about a delicious, ancient golden beverage that dates back to 2500 B.C.E.
Beer.
Back in Cape Town, your average draft beer would cost R28 ($2.20), and a craft beer could fetch a hefty R50 ($4) at a particularly snobby establishment.
When I went to London, my wallet cried the soft tears of the broken when I found out your standard draft was a whopping £4.20 ($5.60).
But if you are on your way to Japan, dear traveler, you are in for a treat. Japan’s draft beers are an average of ¥500($4.50) at a typical Tokyo bar. Craft beer, mind you, can easily fetch a cool ¥700 ($6.40), breaking your bank account as quickly as an 8% Trappist breaks your sobriety.
